St. Catherine Nun Monastery

St. Catherine Nun Monastery—Kiyindi, Uganda—is a Christian, non-profit convent under the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria. Founded to be a place of prayer, service, and formation, the monastery trains Ugandan women in the Orthodox monastic life and extends practical compassion to vulnerable children in nearby communities. Perched on the hills above Lake Victoria in Buikwe District, the monastery is a quiet home for nuns who have freely offered their lives to God. Under the care of their abbess and the local Orthodox hierarchy, the sisters follow a daily rhythm of worship, work, and study. Formation includes catechesis, spiritual direction, liturgical service, and hands-on skills that sustain community life—gardening, small-scale poultry, and crafts—so the monastery can serve others with dignity and self-reliance.
